Mark Making Meditation

What:
A dedicated time of exploration, getting out of your head and onto the page. Gather some paper and your favorite mark making supplies – and get ready to create for the simple act of expression. This is a Mediation and will be accompanied by soft music, should you wish to listen.
How Mark Making Meditations came about:
I originally created this technique as a way to gain confidence in drawing and painting again. I had spent years designing pixel-perfect results and wanted to get back to illustration and painting on canvas. For one year, I made an intentional effort to make marks on paper and in sketchbooks everyday. Okay so I slipped up a few days here and there – but what came from the practice was incredible! I grew more confident and expressive in my work - my marks became a new form of Art for me and I used them as designs in my professional work – it was helping so much that I started sharing this technique with others.
The Mark Making Meditation has great potential for reducing your stress, unlocking your creative side, and is an awesome excuse for buying new art supplies!
Supplies:
The tools you use, are based on your preference. This is a great time to use up supplies you’ve had lying around or purchasing supplies you’ve always dreamt of having an excuse to use. We ask that you DO NOT use your most precious supplies, be ready to really use the supplies. It will negatively effect your meditation if you are worried about using up all of your paper or mark making tools.
Paper :
– Can be large, medium, a sketchbook
– Here’s a paper I use the most, sometimes as spiral notebook, sometimes as individual sheets.
Optional Mark Making Tools:
– Colored Pencils
– Cray-pas or Oil Pastels
– Charcoal
– Ink Pens
– Markers
– Charcoal
– Oil Sticks
– Pastels
